Economic Development Commission

Following an Industrial Development Tax Election held Saturday, May 23, 1959, the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners formed the Industrial Development Commission. Known today as the Rutherford County Economic Development Commission, the original commission members were appointed May 25, 1959.

To alleviate unemployment and underemployment within, and stimulate the economic development of Rutherford County and its several municipalities by fostering and promoting business and industry, developing commerce and trade, and inducing the location of manufacturing, assembly, and commercial enterprises in Rutherford County.

10 Members appointed by the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners. Appointments shall be two year terms and shall expire on June 30 in order to run with the fiscal year of the county.

The third Wednesday of every month, the Economic Development Commission holds their monthly Advisory Board meeting at 10:30 AM at the County Annex Commissioner’s Room, 289 North Main Street, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. If a cancellation or change to the date, time or location is necessary, a special notice will be sent out.
