HISTORY
Following an Industrial Development Tax Election held Saturday, May 23, 1959, the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners formed the Industrial Development Commission. The original commission members were appointed May 25, 1959. The Rutherford County Economic Development Commission served the county well for several decades.  

Rutherford County Economic Development Corporation 501(c)(3) and Rutherford County Economic Development Association 501(c)(6) have each been officially designated with tax exempt status by the IRS. As of July 1^st, 2017 Rutherford County Economic Development is fully functioning as a public-private entity.

MISSION STATEMENT
To alleviate unemployment and underemployment within, and stimulate the economic development of Rutherford County and its several municipalities by fostering and promoting business and industry, developing commerce and trade, and inducing the location of manufacturing, assembly, and commercial enterprises in Rutherford County.
