I-40 to Reopen NCDOT will reopen I-40 the moment it is safe for travel. The best estimate is Tuesday, April 27. If the highway is ready to be reopened sooner, the department will send out a media advisory as far in advance as possible, though this may be less than two hours. There will be a designated safe zone for photographers to get footage of the removal of the barricades at Exit 20. Tennessee media will be able to reach Exit 20 via I-40. There will not be anyone available for interviews at that time.
