3/27/09 - Timken Shiloh Reaches Two Million Safe Man-Hours
We at the Timken Company, Shiloh Plant are indeed fortunate to have accomplished a significant milestone in our 29 year history. Having achieved one million safe man hours on several occasions, our plant reached two million man-hours without a lost time accident for the first time in January, 2009. This achievement is centered on a solid safety program, education, training, communication and an outstanding safety culture among our 273 associates. Many other facilities focus on a reduction in OSHA recordable accidents and lost time accidents. Our plant philosophy is that if you focus on what has happened in the past, then your safety program is reactionary. We feel that safety should be forward thinking and that if you equip people with knowledge and the application of good safety habits, a good "record" comes along for the ride. By the nature of our work, our associates are very technically inclined and take exceptional pride in not getting hurt.
We hope that by continuing to focus on improving our safety program, and by keeping safety training, audits, and communications fresh – we'll be able to achieve our next goal – 3 million hours without a lost time injury!
