CMI Enterprises, Inc to Expand Operations in Rutherford County

Forest City, NC – Governor Pat McCrory announced on April 21, 2016 that the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority approved, under the State’s Community Development Block Grant program, a grant in the amount of $600,000 in support of the reuse of a building in Forest City by CMI Enterprises, Inc. Rutherford County Economic Development Commission would like to congratulate CMI Enterprises, Inc, the Town of Forest City, and the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners on this proposed expansion in Rutherford County. This existing industry expansion will result in the creation of at least 30 new jobs and new capital investments of approximately $2.6 million to include the purchase of new equipment and machinery, and the renovation of the 145,520 sq ft building located at 135 Pine Street in Forest City. In addition, CMI plans to maintain its manufacturing operations at 620 NC Highway 120 in Mooresboro and retain the existing 20 positions at that facility.

CMI Enterprises, Inc, a supplier of soft trim textiles and fabrication solutions to several automotive, nautical and health-care industries, is headquartered in Miami, FL and has been in business for over 31 years. In July 2010, CMI announced plans for a manufacturing facility in Rutherford County producing trim for cars, buses, RVs and trucks. Forest City Mayor Dennis Tarlton said “We are excited CMI has decided to expand its operations here, offering additional job opportunities to our citizens. On behalf of the Town of Forest City Commissioners and the residents for whom we serve, we want to thank CMI Enterprises for their investment in our community.”

This existing industry expansion project was made possible, in part, by the North Carolina Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded to the Town of Forest City. A Local Industrial Incentive Grant was approved by the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners in support of the project, as a result of the proposed expansion and new capital investment. “When a local company is able to expand and create new jobs that is definitely great news for Rutherford County,” Chairman Bryan King of the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners said. “On behalf of the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners, we want to extend our gratitude to CMI Enterprises, Inc and wish the Company prolonged success as they continue to grow and thrive.”

“We are always pleased to support our existing industry as they are the backbone of our growth strategy,” Rutherford County Economic Development Commission Chairman Mike Gavin stated. “I also want to thank the Town of Forest City, the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners, and the State of North Carolina for their continued support.”

The mission of Rutherford County Economic Development is to alleviate unemployment and underemployment within, and stimulate the economic development of Rutherford County and its several municipalities by fostering and promoting business and industry, developing commerce and trade, and inducing the location of manufacturing, assembly, and commercial enterprises in Rutherford County. Rutherford County has a population of 67,810 and is centrally located between Charlotte, NC, Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC. With a strong infrastructure system including roads, water, sewer and fiber, Rutherford County is well positioned for continued growth.
